What We Do

Safe Haven

We provide young people impacted by homelessness  with the essentials — food, clothing, showers, phone access, and help with transportation — in a safe and welcoming space where they can find respite from the daily demands of survival and be supported in the moment-to-moment challenges.

Intake
Assessments

When a young person visits us for the first time, we begin with a conversation to get to know them and understand what support feels the most urgent to them.

Together, we explore needs related to housing, substance use, mental health, education, employment, physical health, and crisis intervention — and then connect them to the right resources, either within My Friend’s Place or with trusted partners in the community.

Every step is voluntary and driven by the young people themselves.

A Place to Belong: Research Shows Young People Feel They Can Be Themselves at My Friend’s Place

At My Friend’s Place, we know that belonging is at the heart of healing. When young people experiencing homelessness feel safe, accepted, and part of a community, they can begin to imagine—and build—a brighter future. To better understand how we’re fostering belonging, our Data & Impact team conducted surveys with young people at My Friend’s Place from January 8–12, 2024.

Support+Feed Brings Delicious Vegan Lunches to My Friend's Place

Last month, we partnered with Support+Feed, a non-profit organization that works with local restaurants to provide healthier and ecologically responsible food to underserved populations.  In recognition of their one-year anniversary, Support+Feed arranged for Monty's Good Burger to bring 150 delicious plant-based burgers and milkshakes to the youth and vulnerable community members we serve. Youth had a great time relaxing on our shaded patio and enjoying burgers that one young person described as simply "mindblowing."
