This summer, young people at My Friend’s Place had the opportunity to explore some of Southern California’s most exciting cultural, educational, and recreational destinations through a series of field trips designed to spark curiosity, foster connection, and create fun.
From experiencing the magic of Universal Studios Hollywood and meeting favorite characters to encountering marine life at the Aquarium of the Pacific, each outing offered new opportunities for exploration and memorable experiences. Young people also enjoyed hands-on learning at the California Science Center, where they interacted with exhibits, explored diverse ecosystems, and learned about California’s natural resources.
At the Natural History Museum, young people received a rare behind-the-scenes tour of the Dinosaur Institute, meeting researchers and learning about fossil discoveries dating back more than 200 million years. A visit to the GRAMMY Museum brought music history to life through interactive exhibits, karaoke, and stories of legendary artists.
Field trips are an integral part of our Transformative Education Program (TEP) and are more than just a day away from the drop-in center. They create opportunities for young people to learn, uncover new interests, build relationships with peers and staff, and simply enjoy being young. Shared meals, conversations, and moments of discovery help strengthen community and create lasting memories.
