Volunteer
On your own or with a team — you can make a difference in the lives of young people impacted by homelessness . Offer a workshop. Assist with events. Support young people and their animal companions. Host a drive. Whatever you choose to do, volunteering makes a difference.

Volunteer Opportunities
You can volunteer your time in so many different ways. In 2024, 592 volunteers contributed 1,402 hours of their time.

Your time matters more than you know. Partner with staff to help young people access food, clothing, and other programming during a weekly shift Monday - Friday. A background check, training and a commitment of at least six months is required.

Help create moments of joy and connection by volunteering at one of our monthly birthday celebrations. Serving pizza and cake might seem small, but it creates powerful moments of belonging and reminds young people they matter. No training or background check are required.

Share the comfort of a nourishing meal with the young people. Whether you fund a breakfast or lunch or volunteer to serve it, your generosity offers nurturing warmth, care, and connection to young people.

By offering a workshop in creative arts, employment readiness, wellness, and essential life skills, volunteers open new doors for young people and help them gain the tools, confidence, and perspective they need to thrive in work, life, and relationships.

Events throughout the year provide young people with moments of joy and belonging. Volunteers are essential in bringing these experiences to life — by helping decorate, serve meals, and create a warm, festive atmosphere where every young person feels celebrated and cared for.
Group Volunteer Opportunities
Want to volunteer with friends, family, or co-workers? Below are some of the ways that groups can volunteer with us.

When a young person moves into housing, your group can help turn their new space into a true home by fulfilling a personalized wish list of essentials. You shop and we’ll make sure it’s delivered when the young person moves in.

Work with your community to collect items for young people. The need is great for: art supplies, backpacks, blankets and sleeping bags, masculine and unisex clothing, hygiene and toiletry supplies, shoes, snacks, and tents. Items must be delivered to My Friend’s Place by appointment.

Provide and serve breakfast or lunch for the young people. You’re welcome to bring the meal yourself, or make a contribution and we’ll coordinate the food for you to serve.

Serving my community is important to me. I learned about My Friend's Place from a professor and made a point to ask to volunteer. I was so impressed with MFP and how they are truly attuned to the needs of our young people that I requested to come back for my internship. MFP is a very special safe place where young people can be themselves. I am filled with joy seeing this community of young people connect, share life experiences, share meals together, learn more about themselves, create, shine, and be resilient."
