Hollywood Arts @ My Friend’s Place
Constantly evolving to meet the needs of our youth, the Transformative Education Program at My Friend’s Place offers extensive programming for homeless youth in the areas of education, employment readiness and creative and living arts. Because many homeless young people have had negative experiences with traditional education within the foster care or juvenile justice systems, My Friend’s Place has tailored our services to counteract those negative perceptions and draw youth into positive and affirming opportunities. We offer a wide range of creative workshops and classes that encourage self-expression in an effort to engage youth who might be hesitant to pursue more traditional programming and treatment options. Participation and success in creative self expression provide an opportunity for youth to improve self esteem, hope and pro-social behavior.
In recent years, My Friend’s Place has strengthened our Transformative Education Program with more comprehensive employment readiness and support services, and, in 2015, the Program is growing again as we launch a unique program model that fosters both creative expression and employment readiness for youth moving toward stability. Hollywood Arts @ My Friend’s Place utilizes a model developed over the past eight years to help homeless and at-risk young adults, ages 12-25, transition into lives of self-sufficiency through arts-based curriculum, mentorships and professional internships. Hollywood Arts classes in performing, visual and urban arts provide young people growth, improved self esteem, and, ultimately, the development of the critical communication and life skills necessary to lead independent and productive lives. The launch of Hollywood Arts @ My Friend’s Place provides homeless young people with new opportunities to build self-esteem, master educational concepts and explore job-readiness training that will help our youth find self-sufficiency and independence.
